2021–2022 Household Size and Number in College Verification - Independent Student

Financial Aid and Scholarship Services will request this form only if it is needed to complete your financial aid file. If this item is listed under your Financing Tasks in My ASU, your financial aid awarding and disbursement will be placed on hold.

You can view your document status on My ASU’s Finances tab. Please allow 2 to 3 business days for receipt to show in your Financing Tasks.

Purpose: This form is used to verify the accurate number of household members and number of household members in college at least halftime that should be reported on your FAFSA.

Important

1. For the purposes of federal student aid, only those who are receiving the majority of their financial support from you or your spouse (if married) can be included in the household size.
2. If proof of financial support documentation is requested, acceptable proof includes (a) a signed copy of your 2019 federal tax return or tax return transcript listing your dependents (b) a copy of your health insurance policy showing coverage for the individual in question, or (c) a current lease agreement showing you are the tenant responsible for the rent and the individual in question is listed as an occupant (i.e., not responsible for the rent). Foster children are not included in the household size.
3. Any time a form indicates that a family member is also attending ASU, the family member's FAFSA will be evaluated to ensure no conflicting information exists.
