Summer aid for first-year students

The following information is for the benefit of students who are incoming first-year students beginning their studies at ASU during the summer 2024 semester.

Steps To Complete Notes
Enroll in summer 2024 classes. You will enroll in summer classes with the help of your academic advisor. You must be enrolled in the summer semester to be considered for summer financial aid.
2 Complete a 2023-2024 FAFSA.

www.fafsa.gov
Make sure to complete the 2023-2024 FAFSA even if you have already completed a 2024-2025 FAFSA. ASU can only award you financial aid for summer 2024 with the information from the 2023-2024 FAFSA.
3 Monitor your financial aid status & submit requested documents on your tasks list on My ASU.

my.asu.edu
If ASU is requesting verification items to complete your financial aid file, you will find them on My ASU under your Priority Tasks on My ASU. Pay close attention to the aid year the item is being requested for by clicking on each item. Forms submitted for the wrong aid year will delay the processing and awarding of your financial aid. All items listed for aid year 2023-2024 need to be completed in order for your summer financial aid to be processed.
4 Receive your aid offer Financial Aid Notification.

After all your documentation have been submitted and processed, you will be considered for financial aid based on the number of credits you are enrolled for in the summer semester. Your summer award notice will be sent to your ASU email address.

Once awarded summer aid, you can always view your current awards on My ASU in the Finances Tasks. Summer awards will be listed in the 2023-2024 aid year.

5 Act on your awards on My ASU in the Finances Tasks.

If you intend to borrow loans for the summer, you must accept them on My ASU in the Finances Tasks. Make sure to select the 2023-2024 aid year.  In order to receive loans, you must be enrolled in at least half time status (6 credit for undergrad and 5 for grad).
6 Complete any Master Promissory Notes and Loan Entrance Counseling on your Priority Tasks on My ASU.

my.asu.edu
If you accepted any loans, you must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Loan Entrance Counseling for each loan. Loans cannot disburse until these have been completed.
7 Sign up for direct deposit on My ASU in the Finances menu.

my.asu.edu
We recommend that you enroll in direct deposit so that, after your aid has disbursed and has been applied to your ASU charges, any remaining funds will be sent to your bank account for quicker access to them. If you do not enroll in direct deposit, any remaining funds will be sent as a check to your mailing address on file at ASU.
8 Search for jobs.

If you plan on working during the summer, you can find on-campus jobs using our online job search.
9 If desired, apply for a Federal Parent PLUS Loan.

If your parents decided to apply for a Federal Parent PLUS Loan, you and your parents must follow the instructions listed on the web site on the left.
10 Receive your funds. If you have been awarded and all your Priority Tasks are completed, your funds will disburse near the beginning of the summer session that you are enrolled in. Your financial aid will automatically pay your current ASU charges. If there are any remaining funds, they will be sent to you either by direct deposit or check.
