2024-2025 Grad type verification

If this item is listed under your Financing Tasks in My ASU, your financial aid disbursement will be placed on hold until you provide the information requested.

Why this is needed

This item will appear in your Financing Tasks on My ASU when conflicting information exists between your ASU admissions status and your FAFSA responses. The conflicting information must be resolved before you will be offered or disbursed any financial aid. Resolution includes correcting your FAFSA responses or updating your ASU admit status.

ASU's Financial Aid and Scholarship Services must compare your current ASU academic program and prior degrees earned via official academic transcripts to your FAFSA responses regarding your academic program and prior degrees earned to determine your financial aid eligibility.

Below are the FAFSA questions that are compared to your ASU admission status, as well as guidance on how to fix your FAFSA.

2024-2025 FAFSA questions

Under the "Personal Circumstances" section in the Student College or Career Plans on the FAFSA website, go to the following questions:

  • When the student begins the 2024-2025 school year, what will their college grade level be?
  • When the student begins the 2024-2025 school year, will they already have their first bachelor's degree?
Priority Task Student action needed
FAFSA Degree Correction Needed
  1. Step 1: Log into the FAFSA using your FSA ID. Forgot your FSA ID?
  2. Step 2:Review your responses to the question under the Personal Circumstances section in the Student College or Career Plans tab which asks if you:

When the student begins the 2024-2025 school year, will they already have their first bachelors degree?

If you will not have your first bachelor's degree prior to the start of the 2024-2025 school year, make sure your response is No.

If you do not currently have your bachelor's degree but will receive it before the 2024-2025 school year, do not update the answer to this question. This task will correct itself after you earn your degree.

  3. Step 3: Review your response to your college grade level.

When the student begins the 2024-2025 school year, what will their college grade level be?

If you have already received a bachelor's degree or will have by the start of the 2024-2025 your answer should be either other undergraduate (junior and beyond) or master's, doctorate, or graduate certificate program.

If you have not been admitted to a master's or doctorate program but plan to enroll in one at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, do not correct your FAFSA. This task will correct itself after you are enrolled in the program.

FAFSA Correct Degree Processing of your financial aid is on hold until ASU resolves a discrepancy between multiple questions on your FAFSA and your ASU admission application. You don't need to do anything at this time. In order to determine your financial aid eligibility ASU must resolve the conflict by updating your FAFSA application.
Self reported Degree Complete the Self reported degrees form to confirm if you already have a bachelor’s degree as indicated on your admission application or if you do not have a degree.

Additional information

  • Financial Aid and Scholarship Services may correct your FAFSA responses on your behalf as long as parent information and signature are not required as a result of the correction.
  • FAFSA corrections may take five to seven business days to process.
  • When no conflicting information exists, this Financing Task will be completed.
  • Please contact ASU Financial Aid and Scholarship Services for any FAFSA questions.

Tips

  • Once your degree is posted by your previous school, request a final official academic transcript showing the degree earned and have it sent to ASU Admission Services.
  • If you earned a bachelor's degree from ASU and are now seeking an ASU graduate degree, you do not need to request your final official academic transcript.
  • If you have completed a bachelor's degree and will immediately begin a graduate program in the next term, you must wait until your bachelor's degree is verified and posted before this Financing Task can be completed (i.e., undergraduate degree in fall and graduate degree in spring, or undergraduate degree in summer and graduate degree in the fall).
  • If you complete a bachelor's degree by the end of summer and will be enrolled in a graduate, professional, or second bachelor's degree in the fall semester, respond "Yes" to "Will you have your first bachelor's degree before you begin the 2024-2025 school year?"
