2024-2025 Parent non-tax filing and income verification

If this item is listed under your Financing Tasks in My ASU, your financial aid disbursement will be placed on hold until you provide the information requested.

Why this is needed

Arizona State University needs to verify your parent's income information in order to complete your financial aid file.

This form must be completed by the parent listed on the FAFSA. You will need to provide the parent guest access on My ASU in order for them to electronically complete and sign parent forms. To grant your parent guest access, visit My ASU - Add a Guest. Under Finances, check the box next to View my tasks. Once you provide guest access, your parent will need to complete the Parent Signature Verification task in order to sign and complete forms electronically.

You can view your document status on My ASU under the Finances tab. Please allow two to three business days after your parent submits the form for our receipt to show in your Financing Tasks.

Select this option if your parents filed Married Filing Jointly (MFJ) for the 2022 tax year, and the spouse is the current one listed on the FAFSA.

Select Single\Divorced/Widowed if your parents filed MFJ and filed with someone other than the spouse listed on the FAFSA.

Select this option if your parents are currently married but filed Married Filing Separately (MFS) for the 2022 tax year. This includes if one spouse filed taxes and the other did not or if one spouse filed U.S. taxes and the other filed foreign taxes.

Select this option if your parent filed Single or Head of Household (HOH) for the 2022 tax year.

This will be treated as Married, filing separately, and therefore will require Parent 1 and Parent 2 information.

Where did your parent(s) reside for the 2022 year?

If your parent(s) lived in the U.S. the entire 2022 year, or if they partially lived in the U.S. for the year and earned U.S. income, they will select this option.

If your parent(s) did not live in the U.S. the entire 2022 year, they will select this option.

ASU will compare your parent's date of marriage or divorce listed on the FAFSA to their tax filing status on your 2022 federal tax return (i.e., Single, Head of Household, Married Filing Jointly or Married Filing Separately) to ensure no conflicting information exists.

If your parent's 2022 tax filing status conflicts with their marital status on December 31, 2022, they will need to provide ASU with documentation showing they used the proper tax filing status or they will have to amend your 2022 federal tax return with the IRS and submit a signed copy of their 2022 amended tax documents to ASU.

All federal student aid recipients are expected to comply with published tax laws.
