2025-2026 Student Social Security Card
If this item is listed under your Financing Tasks in My ASU, your financial aid disbursement will be placed on hold until you provide the information requested.
Why this is needed
We need a copy of your Social Security card to verify that the information you provided on your FAFSA matches the information on file with the Social Security Administration.
ASU has an incorrect SSN on account for you. When completing your 2025-2026 FAFSA, the SSN reported on the FAFSA matched SSA but does not match the SSN ASU has on record for you. To update this, ASU needs a copy of your Social Security Card.
If you do not have a copy, or have lost your Social Security card, you can request a copy from the Social Security Administration (SSA) online at ssa.gov or by calling 1-800-772-1213.
The SSN reported on the 2025-2026 FAFSA did not match what the SSA has on file for you; therefore, you will need to take action to resolve the issue.
How to make a correction
If the SSN reported on the FAFSA was entered incorrectly, take the following steps:
- Log in to StudentAid.gov and go to Account Settings to update your information.
- Once the Social Security Administration (SSA) verifies your account status, you MUST update the information on your FAFSA form by selecting “Make a Correction.”
- You should navigate through the rest of the form, make any other necessary changes, sign, and submit your correction.
Updating Government Agencies
If you believe that the SSN reported is correct, you MUST follow the instructions for updating government agencies:
- You MUST contact the SSA by calling 1-800-772-1213 or by visiting ssa.gov.
- Once you resolve the issue with SSA, you MUST contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center (FSAIC) at 1-800-433-3243.
- You MUST ask FSAIC to manually sync your data with SSA.
- Inform ASU of the update.
Instructions
- Determine if your SSN with ASU is incorrect or your SSN on your 2025-2026 FAFSA.
- If your SSN needs to be updated with ASU, submit the form below and attach a copy of your SSN card.
- If your SSN is wrong on the FAFSA go to StudentAid.gov and make a correction to your social security number.
- Wait for a new SAR submission to process. This may take 3-5 days.
You can view your document status on My ASU's Finances tab. Please allow two to three business days after you submit it for our receipt to show in your Financing Tasks.
